Entrance to Wat Pho Temple
With the reclining budda
Measuring 160 ft long
This was probably the hottest day of our trip. The temperature was between 103-105F, with the heat index soaring above 110F. While we toured the temple, it felt like we would walk 10 feet, stop for a rest and drink of water, walk another 10 ft, find shade for another another drink of water and then go on for another 10 feet and so on. And our pale skin was certainly feeling the burn.
So many budda images everywhere
The food in Thailand was so good. We like Thai food to start with but when you get the real thing with the freshest ingredients it's hard to beat. Street stalls are very popular there, selling a wide variety of foods. We saw lots of fish, various meats, rices, fresh fruits and vegetables, juices along with plenty of other mysterious looking things.
In Bangkok with her hot dog...I think. Is there a chance it's actual dog??? ;)
After a day, we left Bangkok and took a shuttle van about 3 hours south to the real reason we came to Southeast Asia...the beach! We stayed for six days in the town of Hua Hin. While the beaches in Hua Hin aren't as famous and pretty as those further south in Thailand, like Phuket, they were beautiful nonetheless. Plus, our resort had amazing swimming pools that included a lazy river, a water slide and numerous shallow pools that were perfect for the girls.
Little beach at the swimming pool. The best of both worlds!
More food stalls at the street market in Hua Hin
Our days were nice and relaxed. Breakfast followed by the swimming pool and beach until our skin couldn't handle the sun anymore. Then it was lunch and naps with a return to the pool and/or beach before dinner.
Geoff's favorite activity? The waterslide. He went down in countless times try to mastering his technique in order to get down faster and faster each time and with the biggest splash.
Just down the street from our resort was a big market open every evening with tons of food vendors and merchandise stalls. Unlike the street stalls we had seen earlier in Bangkok and Hua Hin, this market was bigger, more organized and cleaner. The food was awesome. And cheap! The four of us ate full meals which included appetizers, entrees, drinks and dessert for only about $25. It was so good with so many options we went back there three nights in a row! Definitely our favorite dining experience of the trip.
The guy to left in this picture and all his family couldn't stop staring at the girls (but not in a creepy way). Multiple family members had iPads out taking photos of the girls.

Our last full day there involved a small excursion to a nearby elephant farm. We got a personal show from the trained elephant which involved her doing all sorts of tricks.

Good-bye beach and Thailand! Thanks for the memories and reminder of what sun and heat look and feel like!
